Canby High School, Yellow Medicine East High School and SMI & Hydraulics received a $20,000 LYFT Pathways grant to introduce junior high students to the field of welding using a welding simulator.

High school students will take tours of the manufacturing facilities and work with business professionals on a special welding project. They will learn blueprint reading, set up, fabrication, material list development and budgeting during the project. SMI & Hydraulics will cover the cost of the welding supplies for project, but students will reimburse the company for material costs upon sale of their project.

During the 2021-22 school year, 61 students took this course.
