Truman and Fairmont School Districts, Minnesota West Community and Technical College, along with a wide range of business partners, received a $50,000 LYFT Pathways award for the development of shared CTE programs in Culinary Science and Welding.
The funds will be used to purchase shared equipment and offset the costs for Truman students to be bussed daily to Fairmont for welding and culinary classes. Saturday and summer welding classes will also be available for students and adults. In addition to the technical skills students will develop during classroom instruction, they will also have meaningful work-based learning experiences at numerous manufacturing and food related industries in the region. Student may earn 3 credits for the CIS welding class and 3 CIS Culinary Arts credits once they complete the four levels of ProStart. Culinary students will also become ServeSafe certified. The long-range goal is for the formation of a regional CTE center that can provide programming to students in area high schools that will lead to high wage, high demand and high-tech careers.
