LYFT Career Pathways

Ortonville Area Health Services (OAHS) hosts an Annual Health Careers Camp where students are able to be both on the medical and senior campuses, engage in hands-on activities, and learn the many career path options in health care.

About the Annual Health Careers Camp

The Annual Health Careers Camp is a hands-on way for students to see what goes on behind the scenes in health care. Students ages 14 - 18 from all around the Ortonville Area have had the chance to learn about paramedics, preventable medicine, imaging, injections, surgery and therapy.

Students explored healthcare professions by attending educational sessions on the OAHS and Fairway View Senior Communities campuses and practiced completing medical procedures in a testing environment.

  • Mental Health with the OAHS Mental Health Team
  • Customized Medicine with the OAHS Pharmacy Team
  • Body Movement with Big Stone Therapies
  • Intergenerational Games with Fairway View staff and residents
  • Surgical/Anesthesia Education, including the art of anesthesia, intubation, making incisions, using laparoscopic equipment, and closing incisions
  • Emergency Medicine and radiology focused on a trauma scenario, highlighting trauma response, radiology, and ultrasound.
  • Medical transport, including air and ground transport, and the vital role each plays in patient care outcomes. Life Link III and Ortonville Ambulance Service were on site for hands-on demonstrations.

LYFT's Key Role in the Event

Every year, OAHS with the help of LYFT and their $1,000 grant, is able to give area students the opportunity to explore healthcare careers. It's a win-win combination with students broadening their horizons and some students coming back throughout the years as employees!
